Clinton Wins Big in Kentucky, Obama Looks for Victory in Oregon

New York Senator Hillary Clinton has taken victory in the Kentucky Democratic primary on Tuesday as expected, with Illinois Senator Barack Obama on track to win in the Oregon primary results. According to Kentucky exit polls and early voting results, Clinton took the state by a wide spread, while polls from Oregon give Obama a comfortable margin of victory.

New Data Shows Spike in 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Dismissals in 2005

Several U.S. military installations saw a significant increase in the number of troops dismissed under the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" ban on openly gay service members in 2005, according to new data obtained by Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. Overall, 2005 dismissals increased from 668 in 2004 to 742 last year, SLDN’s data reflects. The sharpest increase in 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' dismissals occurred at Fort Campbell, KY, where PFC Barry Winchell was murdered in 1999 by fellow soldiers who believed Winchell was gay. In 2004, the base discharged 19 soldiers under the ban; that number climbed to 49 in 2005.

ACLU Reaches Compromise for Kentucky School District Harassment Training

The American Civil Liberties Union asked a federal court this week to dismiss the parts of a lawsuit aimed at shutting down a court-ordered, anti-harassment training seminar for a Kentucky school district, but agreed with the plaintiffs that the district’s earlier policy violated student free speech rights.

Trial Set in Kentucky Gay Bias Attack

A Kentucky man charged with the baseball bat beating of an Ohio National Guardsman outside a gay-friendly bar in Newport earlier this year is scheduled to stand trial this week. Steven Ard, 38, is accused of attacking 19-year-old Matthew Ashcraft on the evening of June 26, following a dispute outside the popular club Woolly’s.

Gay Rights Law 'Unchristian'

A week before Louisville Metro Council votes on a gay rights ordinance, mailboxes throughout the city are being filled with flyers and leaflets telling people to pressure their council members to vote against the measure. The majority of the material has been sent by a conservative Christian group that claims teachers would be forced to give classes in gay sex.

Parents Threaten To Remove Kids From School Over Gay Diversity Training

Parents are telling the Boyd County School District that they will take their children out of school the days that diversity training classes are held. The classes were part of an agreement reached between the school board and the ACLU to end a legal battle over the creation of Gay-Straight Alliance.

Black Churches Denounce Gay Marriage

African-American Baptists in Kentucky have adopted a resolution opposing same-sex marriage, declaring that it is not a civil right that can be compared to the struggle for racial equality. The General Association of Baptists in Kentucky, which has more than 500 churches, unanimously approved the measure.

Gay Hate Leaflets Flood College Campus

University of Louisville students found homophobic leaflets and posters today posted and dropped off throughout the campus. The material proclaimed that all homosexuals have AIDS, that gays commit murder more frequently than straights, and a number of other popular misconceptions. The fliers called on students to support an amendment to the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage.
